Adli’s late strike ends Liverpool’s unbeaten run in Bournemouth classic

Amine Adli struck deep into stoppage time as Bournemouth claimed a dramatic 3–2 Premier League victory over Liverpool, bringing the visitors’ 13-match unbeaten run to an end at the Vitality Stadium, Sport360NG reports.

The substitute pounced in the fifth minute of added time to finish from close range following a frantic goalmouth scramble, sending home supporters into celebration after Liverpool had fought back from a two-goal deficit.

Earlier, Dominik Szoboszlai had hauled Liverpool level with his second free-kick goal in as many games, cancelling out Bournemouth’s early dominance after Virgil van Dijk had headed the visitors back into contention.

Liverpool endured a disastrous spell in the first half that proved costly. Evanilson opened the scoring in the 26th minute after a defensive lapse, with Joe Gomez sustaining an injury in a collision with goalkeeper Alisson while attempting to block the effort.

With Gomez receiving treatment and Wataru Endo preparing to replace him, Liverpool continued with 10 men for several minutes. Bournemouth took advantage in the 33rd minute when Alex Jimenez ran onto James Hill’s through ball and finished neatly through Alisson’s legs to make it 2–0.

The visitors eventually stemmed the tide just before half-time, with Van Dijk rising highest to head home from a Szoboszlai corner. Liverpool’s momentum continued after the break as Mohamed Salah rolled a clever free-kick into Szoboszlai’s path, allowing the midfielder to drive a low finish past Djordje Petrovic to restore parity.

Both teams pushed for a winner in an open second half. Alisson produced a sharp save to deny Ryan Christie, while Petrovic responded at the other end with a fine stop to keep out Florian Wirtz.

However, Bournemouth had the final say. From a long throw and sustained pressure, Adli reacted quickest in stoppage time to bundle home, sealing a memorable win for Andoni Iraola’s side.

The defeat was Liverpool’s first since November, and Arne Slot’s team remain without a Premier League victory in 2025.

Liverpool Left to Rue Costly Errors

Despite showing character to recover from two goals down, Liverpool will reflect on a series of defensive mistakes that undermined an otherwise spirited performance.

Van Dijk’s failure to deal with the initial danger led directly to Bournemouth’s opener and contributed to the sequence that resulted in Gomez’s injury. With Ibrahima Konate unavailable, Liverpool were forced into multiple defensive changes as the match progressed.

By the hour mark, three members of the starting back four had been withdrawn, with Slot reshuffling his defence and even deploying Szoboszlai at right-back.

Szoboszlai’s quality again stood out, and Liverpool might have escaped with more had Petrovic not produced an outstanding save to deny Wirtz.

But Bournemouth capitalised on late defensive disorganisation to claim all three points, earning full credit for a resilient and decisive display.
