Okocha Reunites with Former Super Eagles Coach Westerhof in Lagos
Nigerian football icon Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha recently hosted his former national team coach, Clemens Westerhof, at his residence in Lagos, Sport360NG reports.
Westerhof, who shared highlights of the reunion via Instagram on Friday, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Okocha and his wife for their hospitality.
“Unforgettable night of my life in Lagos, Nigeria, with my boy Jay-Jay Okocha. Thank you for hosting me and my wife Lilian, it was a pleasure to reconnect and relive the good old days,” the veteran coach wrote.
Westerhof is widely regarded as one of the most successful coaches in Nigeria’s football history, having led the Super Eagles from 1989 to 1994, a period often referred to as the golden era of Nigerian football.
Under his leadership, the national team won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 and made a memorable first appearance at the FIFA World Cup the same year, topping a group that included Argentina, Bulgaria, and Greece.
Okocha was handed his national team debut during Westerhof’s tenure and went on to enjoy a storied international career, establishing himself as one of the greatest talents the country has ever produced.
