Mbappé available for Alavés clash as Alonso faces pressure at Real Madrid

Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has confirmed Kylian Mbappe is fit and available for Sunday’s La Liga trip to Alavés as his injury-hit side look to arrest a worrying run of form, Sport360NG reports.

Mbappé sat out Wednesday’s Champions League defeat by Manchester City, a result that left Madrid with only two victories from their last eight matches and intensified pressure on Alonso.

“We’ve got Kylian back, he’s ready to play,” Alonso said on Saturday. “Tomorrow we’ll decide if he starts, but that is obviously good news.”

Madrid head to Vitoria significantly depleted, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dani Carvajal and Eduardo Camavinga sidelined through injury. Fran García, Álvaro Carreras and Endrick are all suspended, while defender Dean Huijsen is expected to return.

Despite the absences, Alonso insisted his squad still has the depth to respond.

“Clearly we have players missing, but we still have a strong group and a team capable of competing,” he said.

The champions currently trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by four points, and Alonso believes the difficult spell could ultimately benefit his side.

“We are going through a tough period, but we can grow from it,” he added. “If we manage to get through these moments and change the dynamic, maybe in a few weeks we’ll look back and say it made us stronger.”
