FIFA rankings: Super Eagles rise to 38th in Latest FIFA World Rankings
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have moved up three places to 38th in the world in the latest FIFA rankings released on Wednesday, despite their recent failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Sport360NG reports.
The three-time African champions retained their position as Africa’s fifth-best team, maintaining their continental standing even after a dramatic playoff campaign that ended in a penalty-shootout defeat to DR Congo in the final. Earlier in the playoffs, Nigeria had secured a 4–1 extra-time victory over Gabon in the semi-finals.
Morocco, Senegal, Egypt and Algeria continue to occupy the top four spots in Africa, while Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire and Mali follow in sixth, seventh and eighth. DR Congo and Cameroon complete the continent’s top 10.
On the global stage, Spain remain the world’s top-ranked team. Argentina, France and England held their positions in second, third and fourth, while Brazil climbed above Portugal to take fifth place.
FIFA’s next world ranking is scheduled for release in early 2026.
